Nach fast vier Monaten gelingt es, das Bohrloch im Golf von Mexiko zu schließen. Nach Angaben von BP war die Aktion "Static Kill" erfolgreich. Dabei wurde das Bohrloch erst mit Schlamm und dann mit Zement versiegelt. BP überwacht nun, ob die Versiegelung dauerhaft das Austreten von Öl verhindert.
